very good guide book (Rating 5 of 5)

this is a very good guide book (and also really the only one for the subject). it would be nice if it had some behavioral facts for each bird. guidebooks get a little dry otherwise. i like this size of guidebook also. Audubon used to produce smaller guidebooks (not belize i don't think) thinking that they would be more convenient. i find the smaller guidebooks more difficult to page through especially when about a thousand insects are chewing on me in the jungle
The essential Belize bird book (Rating 4 of 5)

If you're birding in Belize with one book, this is the book you must have.
What I don't like is the layout. One section is for drawings with short, general habitat descriptions. Then you go to a second for much more complete descriptions. Then to the third section for a limited number of range maps. You have to go to the second section just to find the page number of the range map or if there even is one
A field guide is for use in the field! (Rating 4 of 5)

A good and thorough guide, but annoyingly large for field use. Even with the great number of species in Belize, there must be some way to make this book portable
Birding in Belize (Rating 4 of 5)

I am getting prepared for my first trip to Belize and am looking forward to adding numerous new birds to my life list. I purchased this book to become familiar to the variety of birds that I wish to view. The color plates are great and the text describing the birds add information about every bird. The one reason I gave this book only 4 stars instead of 5, is the sheer size of this book. When I leave for my trip to Belize, I will probably cut the book in half only taking the color plates to identify the birds that I see. There is no need to take so much book into the field, if I will only be using one half of the book
Excellent for novice and expert bird enthusiasts (Rating 5 of 5)

I have several bird books for Central America but this is by far the most comprehensive guide on birds of Belize. There are numerous illustrations and the information is very thorough. If you're looking for a guide to Belizean birds, this is for you
